Called to Greatness: Growing Into the Footprint God Has for You
Have you ever felt like the vision God has placed in your heart is simply too big for you? Like you are a child trying to walk in your father’s oversized boots, stumbling over every step? Many of us, especially Christian women entrepreneurs and creatives, feel this gap between our current reality and our Kingdom purpose.
We look at the "footprint" God has laid out for us—the influence, the ministry, the business—and we think, "I'm not big enough to fill that." But here is the secret: you aren't supposed to be big enough yet. You are called to grow into it.
Breaking the Spirit of Smallness
There is a religious spirit that often whispers, "Only God is great; you should stay small and invisible." While it is true that all glory belongs to Him, we must remember that we are made in His image and likeness. When God calls you to a "great" task, He isn't just looking for a servant; He is looking for a vessel to display His majesty.
To deny the greatness of the calling He has placed on you is, in a way, to deny the capability of the One who called you. Spiritual growth involves expanding our capacity to reflect His light. As it says in Ephesians 3:20-21, He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.
The Messy Middle: Learning to Walk
I remember when I first started The Language of Pearls Podcast. I had zero experience in broadcasting. I was a mother, homeschooling my children, and often exhausted with a baby in my arms. I didn't know how to use Logic Pro for audio or Final Cut Pro for video.
The "footprint" of a global bilingual ministry felt massive. My "I can't" was loud. But God doesn't call the equipped; He equips the called. In those late nights, as I fumbled through tutorials and technical glitches, I realized that creative growth is a form of worship. God was stretching my "shoe size" so I could eventually walk firmly in the vision He gave me.
Biblical Giants and Their Growing Pains
Think of the "greats" of our faith. They didn't start large; they grew into God's vision through obedience and trials.
- Abraham: Called to be the father of nations while he was still childless. He had to grow into the name "Abraham" (Father of Multitudes) through years of waiting and trusting like it says in Isaiah 46:10, knowing God declares the end from the beginning.
- Joseph: From a pit and a prison to the palace. His character had to grow to match the footprint of leadership God had prepared for him in Egypt.
- Moses: A man who stuttered was called to speak to Pharaoh. God reminded him, like He reminds us in Luke 1:37 that "no word from God will ever fail."
These men weren't great because of their own strength; they were great because they allowed God to occupy their lives. Biblical leadership is about being a vessel for God’s majesty.
Shift Your Mindset: From "I Can't" to "God Equips"
If you are waiting to feel "ready" before you step into your calling, you might wait forever. The growth happens during the walk.
- Acknowledge the Source: Remember Deuteronomy 8:18—it is God who gives you the ability to produce wealth and fulfill His covenant.
- Embrace the Learning Curve: Whether it's learning a new software, a new leadership skill, or a new way of parenting, see it as God stretching you.
- Trust the Visionary: God sees the end from the beginning. If He saw you in that footprint, He will provide the strength to fill it. As Jeremiah 32:27 asks, "Is anything too hard for me?"
Anchor Your Soul in Truth
Here are the spiritual anchors for your journey of growth:
- John 21:25: Jesus did so many things that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written. His greatness is inexhaustible!
- Isaiah 46:10: I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come.
- Deuteronomy 8:18: But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth.
- Ephesians 3:20-21: Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine...
- Jeremiah 32:27: I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?
- Luke 1:37: For no word from God will ever fail.

My friend, don't be afraid of the size of the footprint. Be afraid of staying small when God has called you to move mountains. As you increase in knowledge, God often increases the vision. What once felt impossible begins to make sense in His timing.
