Why Saying Yes to God Gets Hard: Overcoming Spiritual Opposition to Find Your Kingdom Purpose

There is a sacred, electric moment that happens in the heart of every purpose-driven visionary. It is the moment you stop negotiating with the quiet whisper of the Holy Spirit and finally utter a full, unreserved "Yes."

In that moment, the atmosphere shifts. You feel an internal alignment, a sense of wholeness as you finally step toward the creative assignment God has breathed into your soul. You expect the path to smooth out, the doors to swing wide, and the sun to break through the clouds.

But then, the unexpected happens.

Instead of a red carpet, you find a battlefield. The car breaks down. A close friend suddenly misinterprets your heart. Your creative confidence, once so bright, is clouded by a sudden, heavy fog of self-doubt. You find yourself asking the question that has echoed through the ages: “Why is everything getting harder now that I’ve finally said yes to God?”

Beloved, if you are standing at this threshold, let me speak life into your chaos: Opposition is not a sign that you missed God; it is often the loudest confirmation that you are walking directly in His will.

The Paradox of the Threshold

When you choose to awaken to your Kingdom purpose, you are not just starting a new project or business. You are engaging in a spiritual transition. You are moving from a state of dormant potential into a state of active, creative authority.

I often share on The Language of Pearls Podcast that the moment you have the vision and every intention to follow through with God's call, it appears like everything comes against you. This is the spiritual growth insight we must internalize: Expect opposition.

Jesus prepared us for this in John 15:18-21. He told us clearly, “If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first.” He wasn’t trying to discourage us; He was equipping us. He wanted us to understand that when we carry the light of Christ into our industries: whether that is the arts, media, science, or motherhood: the darkness will naturally resist that light.

Identifying the Tactics of the Enemy

To walk victoriously, we must be able to recognize the strategies used to distract us from finding our calling in God. The enemy rarely uses a frontal assault; he prefers the subtle erosion of our peace.

1. The Seed of Doubt

This is the oldest tactic in the book. From the Garden of Eden, the whisper has always been: “Did God really say?” When you start your project or begin developing your creative studio, the enemy will whisper, “Are you sure this was God? Maybe it was just your own imagination.” Nothing is impossible with God, and your first act of warfare is to hold fast to the truth of what He spoke in the secret place.

2. The Weapon of Jealousy and Betrayal

Perhaps the most painful form of opposition comes from those we love. Even Jesus experienced this with Judas. As you grow and begin to "shine the brightest for God," you may find that some people prefer you to stay small. Jealousy arises not because you are doing something wrong, but because your "Yes" is a mirror to their "No." Like David hiding in the caves from Saul, these seasons of being misunderstood are actually training grounds for your spiritual muscles.

3. The Strategy of Distraction and Delay

In the book of Nehemiah, when the walls of Jerusalem were being rebuilt, the enemies didn't just attack: they tried to invite Nehemiah to a "meeting." They tried to pull him away from the work. Nehemiah’s response is our blueprint: “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down.”

Creativity is celebrated when we remain focused. Do not lower yourself to respond in anger or spend your precious energy defending your reputation. Stay on the wall.

Spiritual Growth Is Awakened in the Resistance

Why does God allow this? Why doesn't He just clear the way?

Because spiritual growth for women visionaries doesn't happen in the absence of weight; it happens under it. Just as a pearl is formed through irritation and pressure, your spiritual authority is forged in the moments you choose to trust God despite the resistance.

Every time you choose to believe God’s word over your feelings of loneliness or confusion, you are shifting atmospheres. You are learning that your calling is not dependent on the approval of others or the absence of trouble. It is dependent on your surrender to the One who called you.

Your Calling Is Not Limited to the Church

We must break the religious spirit that suggests God is only interested in what happens within the four walls of a church building. At DG Inspired Studios, we believe that the light of Christ that bears truth, beauty, and hope should be expressed through every sphere of influence.

God is raising up mighty women in the "secular" world: in government, in entertainment, in the applied arts, and in business. If you are a designer, a writer, or a parent, your work is a Kingdom assignment. There is no separation between the sacred and the secular when you are the one carrying the presence of God into the room.

Whether you are uncovering your Kingdom purpose or building a creative arts ministry, know that the opposition you face is proof that your work has the potential to damage the kingdom of darkness.

How to Respond with Wisdom and Focus

When the pressure feels like burial, remember that you are actually being planted. Here is how to navigate the storm:

  • Remain Silent and Trust: Like Jesus before His accusers, you do not need to justify your vision to those who are committed to misunderstanding it. Your fruit will eventually speak for itself.
  • Refuse the Bait: Don’t let anger or bitterness distract you. Forgive quickly, breathe beauty into the brokenness, and keep creating.
  • Seek Kingdom Community: You were never meant to walk this path alone. Surround yourself with other visionaries who can speak life into your weary soul.
  • Step into a Space of Learning: If you feel the call to sharpen your creative gifts, consider joining us at the DG School of the Arts.

A Benediction for the Visionary

May you awaken tomorrow with a fresh clarity of mind and a renewed courage in your heart. May the whispers of doubt be silenced by the roar of God’s promises over your life.

I pray that you would see every obstacle as a stepping stone and every bit of resistance as a confirmation of the weight of glory you are about to release. You are not behind; you are being prepared. You are not defeated; you are being refined. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Begin where the Spirit of God leads you. Step into the work God has placed in your hands with the quiet confidence of a daughter who knows her Father is the King of Kings.

Go forth and speak life into the chaos. The world is waiting for the beauty only you can create.

With love and creative fire,

Deborah Gambrel
